Beeswax Column is a standing light sculpture. Made of beeswaxed canvas, the lampshade generates a warm textured light, featuring the pleats and wrinkles of the making. The hanging artwork carries a subtle scent of honey and propolis, collected by hundreds of bees in the east of Spain. The smell is gently activated by the LED light source.
Beeswax Column fuses craftsmanship with design engineering, challenging the common techniques used in lampshade making. The stiff waxed canvas generates an organic volume without the need for plastic lining. On the other side, the pleated lampshade is held by pressure between recycled aluminum components, avoiding the use of adhesives. The design is conceived to facilitate disassembly, reparation, and degradability in a graceful and expressive way.
